What are the first things a beginning guitarist should learn and then practice?
I was looking online and it looks like there’s a lot of people asking what should they start in learning guitar. I’ve been playing Guitar for a good little while now and I’d like to say I’m pretty solid at this point. I’m self-taught and if you want to be self taught I’ll let you. However, I will give you some things that I think are important.
Key Knowledge:
There’s a lot of videos out there on these topics so I won’t go too much in detail but I would recommend starting with YouTube videos on these topics.
String Names
How to use a tuner
Notes and Note Intervals
Major Scale Formula
Chord Formula
After you learn this theory, I recommend spending maybe 25 minutes to an hour every day on these techniques. Repetition will be key on these because the muscle memory is what you are really striving for. So 1-4 are extremely important because they’re going to make learning your favorite songs so much easier. Also knowing these techniques/skills will allow you to write & compose the music to your own songs.
Technique:
Common Open Chords in G
G,Am,C,D,Em (pentatonic)
Scales in G
Barred Chords
Understanding ease of transposing
Your favorite songs!
